Reigning with Christ

(Message for service at Y.M.C.A. Room Johannesburg at 3 pm)

Sunday, February 24th, 1952

Read:

Matthew 5:13-19; Revelation 3:20-22;

13         Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14         Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15         Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16         Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify you Father which is in heaven.

17         Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

18         For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one title shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

19         Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least command-ments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Revelation 3:20-22;

20         Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

21         To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

22         He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Pray and ask the LORD to bless his Word.

Friends, I want to speak to you today about a few thoughts that I have had on my heart for a long time, but that have become ever clearer during recent months.

When these truths dawned upon me, I rejoiced in them.  But oh! at the same time my prayer was, ‘God help me to convey them to others’.

Today as I stand here before you, the first time in my life to speak to a gathering of people, I am deeply conscious of my inadequacy to be the channel of conveying the wonderful Revelations of God’s Word to you.  My earnest prayer is that the Holy Spirit will come to my aid and do the enlightenment.  I know each born again, spirit-filled believer experienced those flashes of light that emanate from God and flood our very soul.  Our cry then is: “Oh God, how can I convey them to other people?”  I feel myself in that position this moment.

I want to speak to the believer in particular, to those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Personal Saviour and therefore have eternal life in accordance with:

John 3:36.

            “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: - - - - ”.

But to those who do not yet believe, I just want to say, listen carefully and you will see what you are missing in this life and are going to miss in the life to come which is going to last through out eternity and every moment of it so packed with glory that this old human heart in its present state will never be able to stand it – yes it’s going to be so glorious that the LORD will have to, and is going to change us.

1 Corinthians 15:51-52;

51         Behold I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52         In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump - - - ”.

It will take Him ages to show all his grace to us - (Eph 2:7).

So, believer, we know that we have a new life waiting for us, after this one in the new age to come.  What is this age going to be like? We are given glimpses of it in God’s Word, but the real appreciation will have to wait until God reveals it to us:

1 Corinthians 2:9;

“- - - Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.

Nevertheless let’s look at a few of the conditions which will be in existence when Christ reigns during the millennium.

One of the major curses of man right through the ages has been war.  Who will ever be able to describe all the sorrow and suffering caused by war?  Look even at our day when we are living in the shadow of the atom bomb and the dread of the greatest war that has ever been.

This world would have been a wonderful place if there had been no war.  It defies the most fertile imagination to even try and draw a picture of what the world would have been like if all the money and effort that have gone for war had been applied for peaceful purposes.

In the millennium there is going to be no war:

Isaiah 2:4;

And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.”

Yes, there will be peace and rest and assurance forever.

In this atmosphere of peace, man will have the opportunity of becoming that which God intended him to be.  We shall be able to breathe the air of true freedom.  We will be finally and forever united to the LORD.

Zechariah 13:9.

“ - - - - - I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.”

(Art, music, leisure 30 - 50 years)

There will be security, God given security:

Isaiah 32:17;

And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever.

Not the security (so called) which the modern world offers you, the security from the cradle to the grave, (yes, friends, that is all that the world can offer you is the grave, how honest of them) and then before you get there (the grave) things are not so quiet and assured.  What a struggle life is under present circumstances.

Yes, we are kept so busy by the slave driver the devil in this mammonistic system that we hardly have time for the finer things of life – our backs are so bent that we can hardly look up and see our God.

Yes, there will be righteousness and justice.

Isaiah 60:21;

            “Thy people also shall be all righteousness - - - - ”.

Yes there shall be all joy, no tears, no crying.  I could spend the rest of the day on this wonderful theme, but there are yet much higher glories that I want to hold before you today.

Let us turn to the Word to complete this part of the picture.

Read:

Isaiah 65:17-25.

17         For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

18         But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for,      behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.

19         And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.

20         There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.

21         And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.

22         They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.

23         They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.

24         And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

25         The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

There now you have a glimpse of the new world to come.

In contrast we have the world of today, with all its misery, sorrow, injustice and oppression.  I need not elaborate too much; you know it only too well.

We know too that we shall live in that world which is to come if we accept Christ as our Saviour.

But in that glorious Kingdom there are going to be positions, (see text) least, greatest.  Every Kingdom must have a government and this coming Kingdom certainly is going to have one.  It is going to be a monarchy because Jesus Christ Himself is going to be the King.

Isaiah 9:6;

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

And He is not going to reign alone; He is going to have those who will rule with him.  He leaves us in no doubt whatsoever as to who these ruling ones are going to be. They are going to be the OVERCOMERS.

Listen: Revelation 2:26-28; Revelation 3:21.

26         And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

27         And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

28         And I will give him the morning star.

Revelation 3:21;

To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Yes friends, people work hard for reigning positions in the present world order.  They count no cost too high, just look at some of the election campaigns.  And what an honor it is to be called Governor General, Prime Minister, or any other Minister for that matter.  If you can be a Judge or a Magistrate today you are something and quite rightly so.

But what is this world compared to the world to come? I tell you; there it will be wonderful beyond comparison to be in a reigning position.  Amongst all that splendor you will really feel the loss, yes there are going to be different grades, because our LORD said once:

Matthew 5:19;

Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least command-ments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

So we see, some shall be least and some shall be great.  You see friends we are all guaranteed eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.  Eternal life is a gift from God.

Listen: Romans 6:23;

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

It is an absolute gift, so that no man might boast - (Eph 2:8).

But friends, this is where the majority of God’s children stop, and it is only the beginning.  They are now satisfied because they are safe.

Are they?

We are not going to go into it because it is not part of our subject for today. But do you know what is going to be the biggest tragedy one day?

It is going to be those who will claim admittance to the marriage supper and be refused.  You see God will never take away a gift once bestowed, but we ourselves can forfeit it through neglect or failing to accept it.

No, too many Christians take it far too easily, are far too smug and complacent.  They have a terrible shock coming to them.

Now, let us see what Paul says:

Philippians 3:12-14;

12         Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

13         Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

14         I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

My friends, for Paul to say these things, not already attained, count not myself to have apprehended!  A man who had already suffered so much for Christ, who was such a power for the LORD, who revealed to us such deep mysteries, who wrote the Epistle to the Ephesians, one of the deepest books in the Bible.

Not attained not apprehended!

And then so many of us can sit back after the first step of repentance and conversion and be quite smug about it.

You noted, he called it a prize toward which he was pressing.  A prize is not a gift, it is something for which you have to work, to strive, and that very hard too!

Somewhere else, he has this to say about this prize:

1 Corinthians 9:25-27;

25         And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

26         I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

27         But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Now you know how a real athlete absolutely puts his body, his whole way of life into subjection to be able to obtain the victor’s crown on the sports field.  Those Corinthians understood him very well, because they were famous for their athletic prowess, as we know.  They were the originators of the famous Olympic Games, were they not?

And all that for a corruptible crown?

How much more shouldn’t we suffer to obtain the incorruptible one?

Yes friends, to be in a reigning position with Christ one day we must be prepared to suffer for his sake now.

(See Matthew 5:10-12).

2 Timothy 2:12;

            If we suffer, we shall also reign with him - - - -”.

We know many people look down upon us because of the truths for which we stand.  We have had to give up many of our old friends.  Many people think we are a bit queer.

But never mind, Christ had to go through the same experience in his time. Be steadfast and keep to the faith. This for us is the most blessed time. This is our opportunity to stake our claims for the wonderful kingdom blessings.

Soon now we are going to see mighty signs and wonders on a scale that the world has never seen them before.  That is going to be one of the means by which God is going to bring his people back unto Himself.  Then once these things have started and the people begin to flock it will become fashionable to be Pentecostal, to be Apostolic.

We had a taste of that during the Branham campaign.  But before that God looks for the few faithful ones who will believe his Word – who will believe before they had seen.

When we believe God now, and know how to apply the power of his Word, we will be fit to reign with Him in his kingdom.  He looks for the overcomers, for those who have been faithful in the dark days.  Just like any other undertaking.  Those who stood by the firm and suffered with it during its dark days and had faith in its future will be in the executive positions in the days of its triumph.

Now we can see what Jesus meant when He said:

Luke 16:10;

            He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much - - - -”.

The parable of the talents makes it absolutely clear - (Matthew 25:21-23)

The LORD gave those talents to the servants to use and through that they earned for themselves positions of rulership in the kingdom to come.

Sunday after Sunday these marvelous messages go forth, and week after week these wonderful truths are being proclaimed, and there are only a few to listen.  How often have I not heard it said: “Oh! if only these services could be broadcast like the other services!”

But never mind, stand firm, hold on to the wonderful vision, keep on proclaiming all the council of God.  Use these “talents” that we have been given, and we shall see our great reward.

Yes thank God for the grand vision of the Body of Christ, the vision of the full body being joined to the Bride and the overcomers being invited to the marriage supper.

Now I just want to utter a few thoughts on this, The Body of Christ and particularly of Ephesians 4:13;

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

I know this is a very deep book, but nevertheless I feel I must give out these thoughts.  They are hard to put into words.

The main point is this: this “I”, in this body, as an individual must come unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.  This body that you see here, is not “I”, this is my house.  The real “I” live inside.  My special gifts, talents, body cannot change basically, they can be developed.  But the “I” inside can change, many more of it can and indeed must die if I want to become that perfect man.

No doubt you have pondered over the words of these few texts very deeply namely:

John 14:23;

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him and make our abode with him.

Galatians 2:20;

            “ - - - - - I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: - - - -”.

Now if Christ really lives in me, if “I” am crucified, then the “I” is gone and it is now Christ looking through these eyes, moving these hands, these feet, writing these words.  When that has happened we shall have attained to the full measure of the stature of Christ.  Now we can see how Christ can walk this earth again bodily, how we can be his body literally.

Now we can see how we can do greater things.

Now we can see how Peter and John could have said to that man at the temple, “look at us”.

How Peter was so powerful that people even placed the sick in such a position for his shadow to fall on them.

How Peter could make Ananias and Saphira drop down dead before him. (Ruling rod of iron)

But remember the “I” will have to go, crucified, and destroyed completely. We cannot be entrusted with such tremendous power while the old corrupt “I” is alive?  No, we will have to be consecrated, self crucified, Spirit filled, Christ filled people, overcomers in the deep true sense of the word.

As such we will be in a fit position to reign with Him.  Yes and we won’t have to wait for the new age to come either, we can start right here and now!

Amen.

Let us go on unto Perfection

(Message for service at Pretoria)

Sunday, April 27th, 1952

Read: Hebrews 1:1; 2:4; 6:1.

Hebrews 1:1;

GOD, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

Hebrews 2:4;

God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost (Spirit), according to his own will?

Hebrews 6:1;

THEREFORE leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and not of faith toward God,

Pray and ask the LORD to bless his Word.

Friends, have you noticed how often the LORD has spoken to us during these last few weeks about two things, LOVE and POWER.

I feel that all that He has for us and wants for us can be summed up in those two words.  They should never be separated; together they are absolutely essential for the complete working out of the full purpose of God.

The LORD wants us to go on to perfection, and to be able to do that, we need the love and the power of God.  These are the last things that Satan wants us to possess.

How he must have fought the Holy Spirit every inch of the way during the period when he, the Holy Spirit, was still wooing us for Christ.  One day when we have reached the other side in safety, when we will no longer see as through a glass darkly, but face to face, when we are crowned with glory, when we shall know even as we are known.  Then, when we will be able to look back down the corridors of time, then will we realise how the Holy Spirit had to fight the devil to make us realise our need of salvation. Many of us know how the Holy Spirit had to plead with us.

Then after salvation; Satan fighting to make us doubt our salvation and to make us lose faith in God.

The next step baptism in water;

Acts 2:38;

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of           you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye           shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (Spirit)

“Repent and be baptized”

What a glorious step along the road to perfection!;

What added power;

What extra assurance.

The wonderful knowledge that we have followed our LORD’S example when he went to be baptized when He said in:

Matthew 3:15;

And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

When I signified my confession and repentance and - - - ;

Romans 6:4;

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

- - - - Yes, another step – “perfection”.

Then when we pressed on for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, how Satan withstood us and tried to make us doubt our own experience trying to make us doubt even our own eyes and ears.

Can you see his scheme?

Gaining time; withholding us from further blessing etc.

For all this is only the beginning of the walk with God and in his power door. This is only the foundation.

When you leave bare foundations;

rain, wind, sand;

with how many is that the case;

need the whole building, the full body of Christ in its full manifestation with Jesus the head – the capstone.

(Found no further written comments on these subjects)

Pyramid without a capstone:

Isaiah 19:19-20;

19         In that day shall there be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border thereof to the LORD.

20         And it shall be for a sign and for a witness unto the LORD of the hosts in the land of Egypt: for they shall cry unto the LORD because of the oppressors, and he shall send them a saviour, and a great one, and he shall deliver them.

Psalm 118:22;

The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

1 Peter 2:8;

And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

Yes we must go on to perfection.

We are the sons and daughters of the living God – we are joint heirs with Christ.  He promised us that we will do greater things than He.  We must preach the Gospel, heal the sick.  Let us show forth the full Christ in all his Love and Power here on earth.

For too long Jesus has been relegated to the skies – one day things will be alright when we get up there.  But here and now for this earth He has no interest no power.

Now friends let us practice what we preach.  The great New Testament Word is Faith.

Faith can only be exercised on earth not in heaven - there not necessary to believe;

There we will see face to face – here we have to accept God’s Word and act on it.

“Bosworth” stick necks out - be obedient, and restore the gifts to the Church – preach all the council of God.

A hard religion?

Thank God for it, no fight, no victory;

The more fierce the contest, the more glorious the prize.

How are we going to win the people back for God if you do not offer them more than formal Christianity?

What have the old established churches been doing through the ages?

Haven’t they been preaching the Gospel of Salvation? Thank God they have.  You can get saved there you know and people are getting saved.

And yet Christianity has gone back;

Lost sheep;

Form of Godliness.

Why?

Damaging the Power.

No accepting the challenge of God’s Word.

(Found no further written notes on these subject’s)

And people say Christianity has failed, because it has no answer for the present world conditions.  Yes it is grand to know that it is wonderful to know that heaven is a wonderful place.  But we would like a solution for things in this life – sickness, living conditions, communism, and war.  Has God got no plan for the world which He made? Is it just doomed for destruction?

What is the sense of that?

Oh Friends, God has a wonderful plan.  It is the plan of the Kingdom of God on earth.  God has given us righteous laws by which we should govern ourselves.

If we return to his book and teach the people what God has laid down for us, there we will be happiness here on earth.

The Scriptures teach that Jesus is returning again soon to restore the kingdom.

We can know it is near for .cf. 1 Thessalonians 5:4.

Satan - - like - - not to know;

Keep people in darkness by all means;

Keep them amused, cinema, dances, night clubs, theatres, circuses, sports, Sunday papers;

Work people to death, keep them busy – do anything just not to let them think – days of Noe were - Math 24:37.

(Found no further written notes on these subject’s)

Listen to how beautifully God’s Word describes it - is ?? 11:1-9;

Luke 1:31-33.

This second coming is very near, even at the door.

(a) Men’s hearts failing them for fear: Luke 21:26, Powers of heaven shall be shaken.

(b) Pillars of smoke: Joel 2:30.

(c) Fig tree and all the trees: Luke 21:29-33, & at the doors: Matthew 24:32.

Yes friends let us proclaim it and call the people to repentance for the kingdom is at hand.

We will need all the demonstration of the power of God to shake the people out of their present state and to change their set habits.

This is our day, we must face the world and meet her need today;

As Peter in his day open blind eyes, unstop deaf ears – cf. Col 3:17.

If Jesus reproached the people of his day for having been slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken - (Luke 24:25) how much more will it be a reproach unto us when we do not believe what Jesus had spoken cf. Mark 16:16:20.

Let us coast ourselves upon Him dare to believe Him, stick your necks out. Show faith in a practical way.

Under Roman Catholic people creep on their knees for salvation – somehow easier than just to believe.

Others believe in holy sanctified lives – danger of flesh, better than others. No we must believe His Word and put it into practice.

The Gifts to be restored to the people – full body of Christ – secret’s of hearts revealed then, fall down – no watering down, all the council people will want it.

We are accused of being too emotional.

Show me love without emotion.

Now friends, if your love for Jesus always remains cold and formal, you better examine yourself and ask the LORD to put more of his love into you; died for us while we were yet sinners.  Our substitute - Romans 5:8.

Others say we get too excited! Friends what does your child do when he sees the postman at the door and he knows he has a parcel for him?

Does he not show his excitement?

The man at the door?

I recognize him you know!

I have seen him before.

The first time He came through a garden you know, it was more than 1900 years ago; carrying my sin; this time with crowns for those who have overcome and suffered for His sake, because they are going to reign with Him.

Is that not a glorious vision, let us proclaim it.

Let us get ready for it.

Brothers and sisters, consider your holy calling in Christ Jesus.

Let us go on unto perfection.

Amen

The Kingdom of God

(Message to Pretoria Assembly)

Sunday, July 20th, 1952.

Prayer:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name.  Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.  Amen

Read:

Matthew 6:25-34.

25         Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

26         Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

27         Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

28         And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

29         And yet I say unto you. That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

30         Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

31         Therefore 'take no thought, saying. What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or. Where-withal shall we be clothed?

32         (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33         But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

34         Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

What is this Kingdom of God?

It is generally assumed to be a Spiritual Kingdom only.  We shall see what God’s Word teaches us about his kingdom.  It is his kingdom because it is called the “Kingdom of God”.

It must have a beginning;

It must have a purpose;

It must have a constitution;

It must have a destiny and there must be conditions of entry.

We are told to seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you - (Matthew 6:33).

What things? Food, Clothing, housing.  Are not these the very things that occupy the minds and lives of all people today? And quite rightly so! We must be practical, we must live and we must earn a living.

It is a hard struggle – yes, so hard indeed that the emphasis through the ages has gone to the earning of the living instead of to life itself.  We are struggling so hard to learn and find ways and means how to earn that living that we have lost the art of how to live.

How often people come to the end of a life of hard work, and no happiness.

For what shall it profit a man - (Mark 8:36).

The pivot of our activities must be on high and not here beneath.  In work, in sport, success is the objective – they should be just secondary things along the road to our eternal destination - (Hebrews 13:14).  Let us put first things first and heed the advice of our LORD.

“Seek ye first”; All these things (food, clothing, housing) according to the text will be just by-products of this Kingdom of God.  Let us see if we can see how this is going to come about.

We first read of the Kingdom of God in:

Exodus 19:5-6;

5          Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

6          And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

God speaking here to Israel; Obey and keep his covenant.  This was in 1491 B.C.

God then gave Israel his Law at Mount Sinai - (Exodus 20) i.e. their Constitution and Israel was formed into a nation with God as their King - (See 1 Samuel 12:12).

The purpose of God was that through this nation Israel as his demonstration and servant people He would win the whole world back unto Himself again, this world that had fallen into the hands of Satan through sin and unbelief - 1 Chronicles 17:20-22; Deuteronomy 4:5-9.

1 Chronicles 17:20-22;

20         O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

21         And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?

22         For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God.

Deuteronomy 4:5-9;

5          Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.

6          Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

7          For what nation is there so great who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?

8          And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

9          Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;

Through obedience to God’s Law this people Israel would be wonderfully prosperous.  The fruits of this kingdom would definitely follow -Deuteronomy 28:1-14;

1          AND it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:

2          And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

3          Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.

4          Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.

5          Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.

6          Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

7          The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.

8          The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

9          The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.

10         And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee.

11         And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

12         The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.

13         And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

14         And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them,

It will be the result of righteous living.  But all these blessings of the Kingdom of God would be lost through disobedience.

The LORD warned them that if they did not obey, He would punish them seven times for their sins:

Leviticus 26:18, 28;

18         And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

28         Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

Revelation 12:6, 14 shows that 3 ½ times is 1260 years (1 day =1 year) so 7 times is 2520 years.

We follow the story of Israel briefly through her periods of obedience and blessing and disobedience and consequent punishment and correction.

We note particularly the promise to David that his would be an everlasting Kingdom in 2 Samuel 7:16; Psalm 89:3-4.

In 1 Corinthians 2:12 we read that Solomon sat on the throne of David his father.

In 1 Corinthians 8:20 this throne is called the throne of Israel.

In 1 Chronicles 29:23 it is called the throne of the LORD.

So Israel is still the Kingdom of God.

In Jeremiah 31:35-36 we also read that Israel was to be a nation forever.

Now if we look at Luke 1:31-33 we see that Jesus is to occupy that throne of David when he comes and that He is to reign over the house of Jacob forever - at Second Advent.

Now in Daniel 2:31-35 we read of the dream that Nebuchadnezzar had, and the interpretation from v 36-45.

Head of God – Babylon under Nebuchadnezzar;

Breast and arms of silver - Mede and Persia;

Belly and thighs of brass – Greece;

Legs of Iron – Rome;

Feet part of iron – part of clay.

The stone has always been the emblem of the house of Jacob - (Genesis 35 and right through all Israel’s Kings crowned on that stone right up till this day.)

In Matthew 21:(42),43-44; - - - - -

42         Jesus, saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in your eyes?

43         Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

44         And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

 - - - - - Jesus called this nation (Isaiah 54) to whom the Kingdom would be given, a stone, none other than the 10 tribes; will fill the whole earth - (Daniel 2:35); must therefore be identical with house of Jacob and Kingdom of Christ.

No World Empire arose immediately after the Roman Empire but the nations of Europe came into being definitely individualistic and became the heir of the Babylonian succession of Empires.  Out of these arose in our times Germany and Italy as the leaders the “feet” and “toes”.  In the last war these have been ground to powder by The British Commonwealth and U.S.A.; starting the victory at the feet of Italy, Islands, and pulverizing attacks.  So in our time then, these Anglo Saxon Nations have been identified as the fifth Kingdom of Dan, the stone Kingdom that will fill the whole earth and shall never be destroyed.  Jesus also to reign over house of Jacob forever.  These two must therefore be identical.

It will be the Kingdom of God – Matthew 21:43-44.

Now when is this Kingdom of God under Jesus Christ as King going to be set up? Let us go back to Leviticus 26:18.  Israel was to be punished seven times or 2520 years.  Several time marks when Israel began to emerge out of these seven times.  We will take the last and most important namely the year 604 B.C. when Nebuchadnezzar finally took Jerusalem.

In 1917, 2520 years later, Jerusalem was freed from the Turks – 2520 years of Gentile domination. This year 1917 is therefore a very important year.  It is the final terminal point of Israel’s 7 times of punishment.  From this year onwards we must definitely expect Israel to return to a position of blessedness and restoration.  This period of restoration of all things will be the time when Jesus must come again.

Read Acts 3:19-21;

19         Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

20         And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:

21         Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.

All the prophets speak of this glorious period on earth when Jesus shall reign and restore all things.

Also see Romans 11:25-27.

See also Acts 1:3, 6.

So when Jesus comes, it is to reign from the throne of David over the Kingdom of God - Isaiah 65:21-25, to set up righteousness.  If you want all these things, then seek first the Kingdom of God.

When can we expect the return of Christ? What did Jesus say when He was asked these questions? - (Matthew 24:3).

His answer was in Luke 21:20-33.  There He gave many signs.

Luke 21:20-33;

(The destruction of Jerusalem foretold).

20         And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

21         Then let them which are in Judea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

22         For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

23         But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days!  For there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.

24         And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led awav captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

(The return of the Lord in glory).

25         And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

26         Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are corning on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

27         And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

28         And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

(Parable of the fig tree).

29         And he spoke to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;

30         When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.

31         So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.

32         Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.

33         Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

One of the most important was the one about the fig tree – Judah.

Bad revival of nationalism – since 1917.

Danger to world peace – Jews and Arabs.

And all the trees - Luke 21:29, other nations as well – Indonesia, Thailand, India, Persia, Egypt, Tunisia; throw out the nations who have played such a large part in their development, (of course all this stirred up by Russia to embarrass the Western Nations, create world chaos and so set the stage for Communism and world domination by the Kremlin).

This then – summer sear – at the door:

Matthew 24:32-33;

32         Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

33         So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

This generation shall not pass till all these things be fulfilled:

Luke 21:32;

Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.

A generation reckoned to be 40 years.

That brings us to 1957.  We have at the most five years left.

We enter that Kingdom at the time of our conversion by being born again: - - - - - -:

John 3:3;

Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

- - - - - and faith in Jesus Christ:

John 3:14-16;

14         And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

15         That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

16         For God sold loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

If we suffer here and now with Him, we shall reign with Him:

2 Timothy 2:12;

            If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

In His Kingdom:

Revelation 3:21;

To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Now is our time to overcome, before He comes! Claim all his promises, play your part in preparing Israel to meet her King.

This Gospel of the Kingdom, - then shall the end come:

Matthew 24:14;

And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

A nation shall be born at once:

Isaiah 66:8;

Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.

Restore the gifts to the Church – let the people come and hear these Kingdom truths and you shall have revival, mass conversion.

Sun of righteousness:

Malachi 4:2;

But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

Even so, come Lord Jesus.

Amen.

That it Might be Fulfilled

(Message to Pretoria Assembly)

Sunday, October 5th, 1952

Prayer:

Ask the LORD to bless his Word…………………………………..

Read:

Matthew 27:26-50.

26         Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

27         Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.

28         And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

29         And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

30         And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.

31         And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

32         And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

33         And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,

34         They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

35         And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

36         And sitting down they watched him there;

37         And set up over his head his iccusation written

THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

38            Then were there two thieves :crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.

39         And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,

40         And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.

41            Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,

42         He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

43         He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

44         The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

45         Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

46         And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? (

47         Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.

48         And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, id filled it with vinegar, and it it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

49         The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.

50         Jesus, when he had cried again with aloud voice, yielded up the ghost.

One of the most striking things of the Bible is how God guards his Word. The one fact which alone would be able to stand by itself is how perfectly each single word fits into the complete whole.

We are beginning to realise more and more every day as the one prophecy after the other is being fulfilled before our very eyes, that nothing has been put into the Bible unnecessarily.  One day when everything will be fully revealed to us we will just marvel and thrill when we see how each paragraph, each verse, each word, yes each letter had its glorious message to proclaim.

We are then reminded of that passage which says:

Matthew 5:18;

For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Times may change, things may change, the closest friend may change, but the Word of God never will.  It towers out sure, supreme over the fiercest waves.  It is the Rock on which we can build over eternal home and know that it will shelter us forever.

This wonderful passage that we have read together is one of many examples that we can chose to show to what ends our loving heavenly Father will go to vindicate his Word.  I chose this one because it is to my mind the grandest, the most sublime.

Here God the Father allows his own Son to be cruelly crucified by a wicked mocking mob, because in his love He promised fallen man, the Saviour who by his atoning death would destroy him (the devil) who had the power over death.  Thereby, making us nigh unto God again, we who have become aliens, nay more his enemies.

We shall never be able to realise what it must have cost our heavenly Father to see his only begotten Son die such a cruel death.  But He saw it through, because He cannot lie.

When we read through the Gospels we come upon words again and again: - ”that it might be fulfilled”.

We read in Luke how Jesus had his face set steadfastly to go to Jerusalem - (Luke 9:51,53)

He set his face like a flint - (Isaiah 50:7).

Oh yes, He knew what was waiting for Him! And He was determined to see it through to the last detail – for you and for me, dear friend!

He was going to deal with Satan and Sin once and for all.  It was going to be complete.  That is why He can save to the uttermost them that come unto God by Him - (Heb 7:24).

Isaiah 1:18;

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

All through that agonizing scene on the cross, every action, every word spoken by our dying Saviour:……………

No further written comments on these words……………..

Amen.
