The book of Joel

Goto the e-book: The book of Joel

The Book of Joel has been written for our day and generation.  The prophecies of the Bible very plainly point to the “Day of the LORD” in which Almighty God is going to destroy this present world system of human Government, called by the Bible - the Times of the Gentiles.  At the head of this system is Satan himself, called by our Lord Jesus the prince of this world (system) – (John 14:30).

Paul described this hierarchy of evil, oppression and darkness very forcibly in:

Ephesians 6:12;

“For ours is not a conflict with mere flesh and blood, but with the despotism’s, the empires, the forces that control and govern this dark world - - - - - ” (Weymouth Translation).

That is the reason why all human government, as the world has known it, has been based on the “cosmic principles of force, greed, selfishness, ambition, and pleasure” – (Matthew 4:8-9; John 12:31; John 14:30; John 18:36; Eph. 2:2; Eph. 6:12; 1 John 2:15-17).

This world system is imposing and powerful with armies and fleets; is often outwardly religious, scientific, cultured, and elegant; but, seething with national and commercial rivalries and ambitions; is upheld in any real crisis only by armed force, and is dominated by satanic principles”.  (Scofield Ref. Bible).

The whole principle of present human government under satanic inspiration can thus be summarized: Might make Right.

This is what God is going to destroy in the coming “Day of the LORD”.  At the same time God will preserve, restore and exalt Israel whom He originally chose and ordained to be his kingdom people here on earth.

See Exodus 19:3-6; Rom. 11:1-2, 25-29; 1 Peter 1:1; 2 Peter 1:1-; 2 Peter 2:9-10, 25).

To them He committed his Divine Constitution of how the world should be governed according to God’s principles of righteousness and justice.  This is the kingdom Jesus taught us to pray for in the “Lords Prayer”:  ”Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”.

Joel describes this process of cataclysmic upheaval when a satanically inspired world force will rebel against its God, and how the Almighty will intervene from heaven: And then restore his government upon earth when the government shall rest upon Christ’s shoulders - (Isaiah 9:6-7), when he shall come to reign on earth from the throne of David over the house of Jacob forever, - Luke 1:31-33.  Then the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, - (Joel 3:18).

The Restoration of Israel.

In the Book of Joel, as in the rest of the Bible, the restoration of Israel in connection with the return of Christ is a very prominent theme.  To most people, however, the word “Israel” immediately spells “Jew”.  This, of course, is one of the greatest fallacies completely unsupported by Holy Writ.  The Bible makes a very clear distinction between the Jews and the other Tribes of Israel.  The Book of Joel, as well as all the other prophecies, will remain closed books until this distinction the Bible makes between the House of Israel and the House of Judah, is clearly understood.

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were not Jews.

Terms like:

“The Jews in Egypt,

the Exodus of the Jews,

the Jews at Mount Sinai,

the entry of the Jews into Canaan,

the 12 tribes of the Jews,

Abraham, the Jew, etc.”,

are all wrong and unscriptural.

According to Bible history, there were no Jews known as such until about 15 centuries after Abraham was born, and until 600 years after the death of Moses.  These things are essential to know if we want to understand the Book of Joel or any of the prophecies of the Bible.

Most Hebrews not Jews.

Abraham was a Hebrew.  The Hebrews were not Jews, because Judah, from whom the Jews descended, was not yet born.  The Jews, who were born later, were also Hebrews of course but only a small portion of them.

“Abraham had eight sons:

One son was Ishmael whose mother was Hagar,

one son was Isaac, whose mother was Sarah.

After Sarah’s death, Abraham married Keturah, and she bore him six sons.  Abraham, being a Hebrew, or descendant of Heber, his descendants would of course be Hebrews, and their descendants would also be Hebrews, but their descendants are not Jews.  If they are, then Ishmael was a Jew, and, as the Arabs are the descendants of Ishmael, that would make the Arabs Jews.  The descendants of Keturah’s six sons became the Brahmins of India.  It would be foolish to declare that they are Jews, although as the descendants of Abraham, they are of the stock of Heber, and, therefore, Hebrews.

The same reasoning applies to Isaac.  Isaac was a Hebrew, the son of Abraham.  Now Isaac had two sons, Esau and Jacob.  If Isaac was a Jew, then both Esau and Jacob would be Jews.  This would make the descendants of Esau also Jews, but the descendants of Esau became Edomites, later the Turks; also the Pharaohs of the oppression were of the Esau line, but none of these people are Jews” -- (F.F. Bosworth, author of [‘Christ the Healer’], ‘The Bible Distinction between The House of Israel and the House of Judah’)”.

This theme can not be pursued here any further.  If you are interested, read the above named article.  You will never understand the Book of Joel or any of the other prophetically Books of the Bible without this knowledge.  The House of Judah is today represented by modern Jewry, although many Jews are not of pure Israel origin.  The House of Israel is found represented by the White Western Protestant nations, with many foreign elements in there midst of course.  Elements of both the House of Israel and the House of Judah will of course be found scattered over the four quarters of the globe, from whence they will be gathered in God’s own good time.  With this distinction clearly understood, we can now proceed to analyze Joel’s wonderful prophetically message for our times.

Chapter 1

The plague of insects:

Joel 1:1-20.

1, Introduction:

Verses 1-3;

1          THE word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

2          Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?

3          Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.

Joel here uses a picture of the onward march and destructive power of the locust, palmerworm, cankerworm and caterpillar to illustrate the force and destruction caused by the calamities preceding and occurring during the “day of the LORD” - that great day which closes this age and ushers in the age to come.

“The whole picture is of the end - time of this present age:

of the ‘times of the Gentiles’ - (Luke 21:24; Rev. 16:14);

of the ‘battle of Armageddon’ - (Rev. 16:14; Rev. 19:11-21);

of the ‘re-gathering of Israel’ - (Rom. 11:25-26);

and of the Kingdom blessing”, (Scofield).

First of all, this Prophecy is addressed to the old men of Israel - (v. 2).  It means the “elders” or leaders in Israel, those in positions of authority in Church and State.  Those who have wisdom and understanding and are able to instruct and lead the people.  This warning was to be impressed on the mind of the young and handed down from generation to generation - (v. 3).

Joel’s message was thus not confined to his day.  It was addressed more specifically to the generation that would be living at the time of the day of the Lord.  They would be those who should recognize its imminence, experience its calamities, and witness the glorious Divine Intervention of Almighty God when he comes to deliver his people Israel.

2. Desolation of the Land:

Verse 4;

            That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that          which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which          the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten.

The destruction caused by these insect pests portrays a time when the works of man’s hands will be destroyed and his prosperity and economy ruined.  Already we can see this literally being fulfilled - the farmer has to battle against pests, blight and drought on an ever-increasing scale.  Industrially things are becoming more difficult and delicate.

Economically the market is very sensitive - the slightest tension internationally causes disastrous losses on the stock exchange.  You can imagine the absolute chaos and desolation that will result if there should be a sudden economic collapse, and that can happen overnight.

See Isaiah 2:20; James 5:1-6.

But verse 4 also speaks of the literal desolation that shall be left behind in Israel (the Western Nations) by invading armies, looting and destroying as far as they go.  Judgment usually falls upon a generation that is ripe for it.  The Lord spoke of this time of judgment as being as in the days of Noah when people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, their hearts overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness and cares of this life, that day coming upon them unawares.

See Matthew 24:37-39; Luke 21:34-35.

Paul writes to Timothy that it would be a time when men would be lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God.

See 2 Tim. 3:1-8.

These Scriptures fit in with Joel 1:5; and describe our day exactly.

Verse 5;

Awake ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

I believe therefore, that these prophecies of Joel are about to be fulfilled within the immediate and near future - let us watch and pray that we may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass and to stand before the Son of Man - (Luke 21:36).

Verse 6;

For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.

This verse gives us the literal meaning of the symbolism of the locust, palmerworm, etc.  The strength and fierceness of this nation that would come against God’s People is compared with that of the lion, the king of the beasts.

In Chapter 2:20, it is called the northern army and;

In Chapter 2:2 it is called the strongest army of all time.

Ezekiel 38 and 39 identify this army as modern Russia and all her confederates.  Do not be misled by Russia’s present climb down over Cuba - she does not need Cuba to destroy the West.

(This was written in 1962, but still applies today - Author).

She is just not quite ready with her home based rockets, air armada and submarines capable of firing rockets from below the surface of the water.  Believe God’s Word and heed the warnings of Joel and do not be lulled into a false sense of security.

Verse 7;

            He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it        clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.

The vine and fig tree are symbolic of the House of Israel - (Isa 5:7) and the House of Judah - (Jeremiah 24) respectively.

Swarms of locusts do strip trees and plants.  In the same way, these invading armies of Gog and its hosts will strip the Western nations.  Locusts usually come from the East as far as Palestine is concerned.  Also the locusts speak of multi-tudes descending from the air and marching along the ground destroying and devouring as they go.  It could quite easily portray the armies of Russia and Eastern Europe and China invading the West (the House of Israel) and Palestine (the House of Judah) by huge parachute armies, as well as by infantry.  In the history of Israel in the land, the armies from the East were sometimes compared with grasshoppers for multitude.

See Judges 6:1-5, 33; Judges 7:12.

Russia and her confederates are the modern descendants of these same people.  Compare also Ezekiel 38:16-17.

Verse 8;

            Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

In God’s dealings with Israel, she is often referred to as the wife of Jehovah, but an unfaithful wife, divorced for a time, but re-married under a new Covenant.

See Ex. 19:1-7; Lev. 20:26; Isa. 43:1; Eze. 16:8; Eze. 23:4-5; Jer. 31:31-34; Hosea 2:19-20; Isa. 54:1, 5-6; Jer. 3:6-7,14,20-21; Rev. 19:7-8; Rev. 21:9,12.

This verse is therefore in line with the teaching of the whole of the Bible namely, that in the time of sore affliction and trial, backslidden Israel (the Western nations and the pure element in Jewry) will return to Jehovah, their former “husband”.  That is, they will come to true repentance and be converted.

See further Ezekiel 36:37. (Read the whole of Ezekiel Chapters 36 and 37).

Verses 9-12;

9          The meat-offering and the drink-offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD’S ministers, mourn.

10        The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted; the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

11        Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.

12        The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.

This passage describes a scene of desolation, not only in the field, but also in the house of God.  There will, therefore, be a time of trouble also of the “Church” and for the ministers, a time of barrenness and of dryness.

Verse 13-14;

13        Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat-offering and the drink-offering is withholden from the house of your God.

14        Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD.

These troubles, of course, are as a result of the fact that “Israel” had departed from the law of the LORD.  The result is that the punitive clauses come into effect.  The ministers are called upon to humble themselves before Almighty God, because they first of all are to blame.  If they had shepherded their flocks faithfully and instructed them in the law of the LORD and led them in the paths of righteousness, these judgments would not have come.

See: Lev. 26; Deut. 28-30; Jer. 1:6.

Then, after the ministers had humble themselves and repented, they are to call a time of general prayer and fasting for the whole of the land.  By this time conditions will have deteriorated to such an extent that not only will the judgement be a physical experience, but it will be sensed and felt instinctively.

The “day of the LORD” will be no mean experience.  Such a day had never before been seen and never shall be again.

3. The Plague of Insects:

A type of the day of the LORD.

Verses 15-20;

15        Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

The day of the LORD is described in numerous places in the Bible.  It is the great and notable day that ends this age and leads in the new with the Second Advent of Christ.  The second chapter of Joel gives further details about this great day.  A close study of all the Scriptures concerning this event will clearly show that the return of Christ and the First Resurrection and Rapture of Overcoming Believers will not take place until the judgements of God have destroyed all the handiwork of man that is not of the LORD.  It is thus the day of the LORD in judgement that will come upon the world without warning, and not the personal visible return of Christ.  Study carefully the following Scriptures:

2 Peter 3:10; 1 Thes. 5:1-6; Malachi 4:1; Matt. 24:27-31; Matt. 13:36-43; Luke 17:22-37; Ezek. 39:8; Acts 2:20-21; Joel 3:15-16; Matt. 24:22; Isa. 34:4; 2 Thes. 1:7-8; Jude 1:14; Zech. 14:12-15; Isa. 2:10-22; Isa. 63:1-6; Jer. 25:31-34; Ezek. 30:3; Rev. 19:11-21.

Verses 16-20;

16        Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

17        The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.

18        How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pastures; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

19        O! LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.

20        The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

A scene of further desolation is described, of which more details will be given in the following two chapters.  Verse 20 gives a very vivid description of the intense heat that will be generated by this judgement by fire that will fall upon the earth; so intense that even the rivers are dried up.

Compare Nahum 1:3-6.

The fire generated by the hydrogen bomb will cause such an effect where the fireball of the explosion alone has a diameter of 4 miles and a luminosity of 500 suns at a distance of 40 miles.  We thus live in the very day of the fulfillment of these Scriptures - let us take heed that that day will not come upon us unawares. Do not be lulled to sleep, but be awake and watch and pray!

Here are more Scriptures foretelling the hydrogen bomb, and, remember, they were written nearly 3,000 years ago!

Isaiah 66:15-16; Jer. 25:31-34; Jer. 30:23-24;

(2 Esdras 15:13, 35-45; 2 Esdras 16:13, 23; Wisdom of Solomon 5:21-22; - Apocrypha).

Chapter 2

Prelude to Armageddon.

Verse 1;

BLOW ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain:  let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand.

In the first chapter we gave a brief summary of the day of the LORD.  Here in this verse we note that the warning goes out that the day of the LORD was nigh at hand.  From what we have already seen in chapter one, and from what we are now about to see, it will be very evident that we are living now in the very days in which the day of the LORD is to come.  Note again that the day of the LORD is not the secret coming of our Lord Jesus and the silent disappearance into heaven of the Saints.  No, it is a day of fire, destruction, judgement and alarm.

The blowing of the trumpet is a call to arms as well as a summons to prayer.  It is the signal of extreme emergency; and no wonder, because the people will tremble and the earth shall shake.  Zion was the seat of government in the days of Israel.  This warning is, therefore, to go out from the highest authorities.  “Mountain” in prophecy means to whole nation with its government and power in other words an earth power.  The nation of Israel has always been “God’s people on earth” (the 12 Tribes).  “My holy mountain” here, therefore, signifies modern Israel as it is found in the Western White Protestant Nations and the remnant of Judah as it is found among the Jews.

In Jeremiah 4:1-6; Zephaniah 1:14-18; the LORD gives a similar warning, speaks of the evil from the north, and pleads with his people to repent and turn to Him.  Please look up these portions in your Bible and read them for yourselves and realize that we live in the very days in which they are about to be fulfilled literally.

Also read: Joel 2:20; Ezek. 38:6; 1 Thess. 5:1-3; Psalm 2; Psalm 83; Ezek. 30:1-9 and Judges chapters 6 and 7.

A Day of Darkness.

Verse 2;

A day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.

Clouds and thick darkness always speak of judgment.  We, who live in the day of the hydrogen bomb, can form a vague picture in our minds of what it means.  We all have seen pictures of the hydrogen bomb explosion and how the mushroom cloud reaches 80,000 feet up into the sky.  A single hydrogen bomb could destroy life completely over a radius of up to 20 miles from the point of impact, whilst “fall-out” would carry death for scores of miles, according to the height from which the bomb is dropped.

Matthew 24:22;

And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

Luke 21:26;

Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth; for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

This strongest nation that has ever been is Russia and her confederates.  For a full exposition of this aspect, see the writer’s article on “Russia in Prophecy.”  Do not allow yourself to be misled by the apparent friction between Russia and China.  They will fight together for world conquest by communism.  After that, as they think, they will fight it out between themselves as to which one will be the Boss.  They, of course, do not acknowledge the fact that there is a God in heaven and that the end will be according to his infallible Word.  “Nothing on this old earth has greater power than a prophecy whose time has come”.

The Devouring Fire.

Verse 3;

A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilder-ness; ye, and nothing shall escape them.

No journalist will be able to give a more accurate description of modern warfare with its flame-throwers and fire bombs, than this verse.  Jesus likens this time of judgement to the fire that destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah:

Luke 17:28-30;

28        Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;

29        But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

30        Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

In Ezekiel 16:49;

(God gives some of the reasons why He destroyed those two cities)

Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

The world has reached the same stage of saturation sinning today, where man is absolutely defying His maker and worships at the feet of Mammon and sacrifices upon the altars of lush and debauchery.  Judgement must fall.

“- - - - - Come out of her my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues” - (Rev. 18:4).

Through the Prophet Amos He Says:

Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel - (Amos 4:12).

During the last war and the Korean War (and the war now in Vietnam) we saw how accurate this description of Joel 2:3, is of modern warfare.

Before the armies, the earth is green and unspoiled, when they have gone over them, everything is burnt and destroyed.  Fire and yet more fire is at the heart of modern warfare.

The Apostle Peter describes it as follows:

But the Day of the Lord will come; it will come unexpected as a thief.  On that day the heavens will disappear with a great rushing sound, the ele-ments will disintegrate in flames, and the earth with all that is in it will be laid bare - (2 Peter 3:10, New English Bible).

Joel says: “a desolate wilderness and nothing shall escape them” - (Joel 2:3).

The modern motorcar foretold.

In Chapter 1, we referred you to Nahum 1:3-6 for another description of these days when the earth shall be judged by fire.  He says that even the hills shall melt and the earth burned and the rivers dried up by the intense heat of the “day of the LORD”.

Nahum goes further in:

Nahum 2:3;( and calls it: “In the day of his (the LORD’S) preparation)”

when the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terrible shaken:

Then, in connection with this day of fire and preparation he says:

The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightning - (Nahum  2:4).

Is this not a very accurate description of our motorcars? They do rage or roar in the streets, and jostle one another in the broad ways; many of our modern streets are called “broadway”- to accommodate our four and six lanes of traffic, flowing on side by side.  To Nahum their headlights at night seemed like torches.  Remember Nahum wrote this 2,700 years ago! He saw our days in a pre-vision or pre-view and had to describe what he saw in the vocabulary of his times.  The best way he could describe these speeding motorcars at night was to say, “they shall run like the lightning”.  Joel wrote at the same time, and saw the same things of our days in, to him, the far distant future, and he had to describe it in the words at his disposal.  Bear these facts in mind as we now proceed with our study.

Modern aerial warfare foretold.

Verses 4-6;

4          The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.

5          Like the noise of chariots on the tops of the mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.

6              Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.

The horse was the swiftest beast known in ancient times.  We still have the winged horse, Pegasus, as the emblem of one of our modern oil companies, signifying speed.  Pegasus was the winged horse of Greek mythology.  Joel saw in this war of fire, at the time of the end, the modern airplane and rocket leaping as it were, from mountaintop to mountaintop, as they shoot across the sky, carrying their loads of death causing pain and blackness as far as they go.  The rattling of their machineguns and flame-throwers has the same cracking noise as a fire that sweeps through a forest!

Is this not a very clear description of things as they are today? You, dear reader, may have experienced the by fighter planes and bombers during the last war.  You may still recall the fighter aircraft silhouetted against the sky literally like a pack of hunting dogs leaping from “mountaintop to mountaintop”.  Should your call have come then to appear before your Maker, you may not have been ready.

Are you ready now? Prepare to meet your God, the day of the LORD is at hand! For other predictions of the airplane, see Isaiah 31:5; Isa. 60:8.

The modern tank foretold.

Verses 7-10.

7          They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:

8          Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded.

9          They shall run to and fro in the city; they shall run upon the wall, they shall climb up upon the houses; they shall enter in at the windows like a thief.

10        The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.

Read these verses carefully.  Remember their setting and their context: they are still part of the prophetic description of the day of the LORD.

Tanks are used in modern warfare to flatten walls and houses.  When they rumble along in battle formation, nothing can break their ranks or make them change their course - (v. 7).

With their thick armor plating, no ordinary bullet can wound them - (v. 8).

The moment a city is taken, with the tanks and armored vehicles as a spearhead, these spread out inside the city to take control as speedily and effectively as pos-sible.  They push over walls and even crush houses that stand in their way - even pushing in through windows by force.  With our modern houses especially, with their big windows, such a tank could drive in through the window, move through the house and out at the other side, with flattened walls in its wake!

Verse 10: When such a squadron of tanks are on the move, the earth literally “quakes” under the weight of thousands of tons of moving steel.  Modern armies have tens of thousands of these vehicles.  With each of their guns spouting fire, and explosive shells, even atomic warheads, the “heavens shall tremble” and the smoke of battle shall obscure the light of sun, moon and stars.

The LORD’S Army at Armageddon.

 (Cp. Rev. 19:11-21)

Verse 11;

And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?

Read this verse carefully and prayerfully.  Let its magnificence, majesty and awesomeness grip your soul.  At a certain stage in this relentless, devil-inspired attack of Gog from the North, in his bid for world domination and the absolute destruction of the Christian West, God will appear on the scene.  When the armies of heaven come down to earth on behalf of God’s people, the real phase in this final war that will end all wars will be reached which is called, Armageddon.

Joel 3:16 describes the same scene:

The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake; but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.

So does Jeremiah 25:30-33; Amos 1:2.

The best description is found in Revelation 19:11-21.

A full exposition of it is found in the writer’s “Studies on the Book of Revelation”.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God.  The armies of the LORD definitely include the angels and Jesus himself is their Captain.

See Joshua 5:13-14; Revelation 19: 11-21; Isaiah 37:36.

The angels of God are numerous and powerful.  In one night, one angel de-stroyed 185,000 Syrians when they came up against Israel.  As God intervened then, He will intervene again, for He says:

For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed - (Malachi 3:6).

It is glorious to know that, because the White Western Protestant Nations are part of the sons of Jacob, Red Communism and Black and Yellow African and Asiatic Nationalism will not consume us.

But, note the following:

Repentance, then Divine Intervention.

Verses 12-17;

12        Therefore, also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:

13        And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

14        Who knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat-offering and a drink-offering unto the LORD your God?

15        Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:

16        Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.

17        Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?”

Before God will intervene and come to the rescue of his people, He calls upon them to repent with all their heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning; to rend their heart and not their garments, that is they must repent inwardly and not just outwardly; there must be a change of heart.  The stiff necks will have to bend and the haughtiness will have to make way for contrition and humility.  When absolute annihilation or total brutal enslavement stares us in the face, there will come about such a change.  By that time, there will be not only bloodshed and destruction on a global scale; but also hunger, starvation and disease.  Man’s pride and haughtiness will lie in the dust.

He will be compelled to acknowledge his Maker and honor the Name of Jesus Christ, who humbled himself to save us wicked sinners.  How about a heart change dear friend now? Earthly security cannot secure you.  All will be called to prayer, none will be excluded, not even the babes; even the honeymoons will be interrupted or cancelled!

The general cry will be: “Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?” – (v. 17).

Communism aims at wiping out Christianity.  That is the first thing they will do when the West is defeated and lies crushed under their feet - they will say to us, “Where is your God?” Who told Joel 2,700 years ago that such a situation would arise at the time when the world shall have the modern weapons described above?

This is another proof that the Book of Joel is inspired.

Read with this Psalm 2; Psalm 83; Ezekiel 30:1-9 for further prophecies concerning this time when the heathen shall rise up to destroy God’s people.

See the writer’s article: “The Time of the Heathen”.

The LORD’S Response: a Glorious Deliverance.

Verses 18-27;

18        Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people.

19        Yea, the LORD will answer and say unto his people, behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen:

20        But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.

21        Fear not, O land: be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things.

22        Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength.

23        Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.

24        And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with wine and oil.

25        And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.

26        And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.

27        And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.

The LORD responds to the call of his people.  By this time, they, of course, will have been face to face with what has gone before.  They will have seen all the horror of judgment face to face.  This will have brought a profound and lasting change of heart about.  To this, God always and automatically responds.

David says:

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise - (Psalm 51:17).

This can happen to any one any time he or she is willing to humble himself before Almighty God.  Why wait until compelled?

The LORD sends them corn and wine and oil, in other words, food, and removes forever from them the threat of the heathen.  This He does by destroying their power with his army.  All the prophets give vivid descriptions of this deliverance when God moves to destroy the northern army (Russia and Confederates).

See Ezekiel 39:11; Isaiah 34:1-8; Isaiah 61:1-2; Isaiah 63:1-6).

The LORD promises great things to come.  This promise He will keep; after the judgement and the demolition comes the glorious Millennial Reign of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, when the earth shall receive its greatest blessing and glory.  He even tells the animals not to fear anymore because he will give them pastures in the wilderness.

The fig tree and the vine will yield their strength, that is their fruit.  This will be literally true, but also figuratively.  The fig tree represents Judah and the vine Israel.  When God’s people – Judah and Israel as found amongst the Jews and in the West, have come to conversion and are serving the LORD, all the earth shall benefit, even the plants and the animals.  In God’s dealings with Israel, it is repeatedly stated that the welfare of field and flock will go hand in hand with the spiritual condition of God’s people.  If they obey, there will be peace in the land, rain in season and health for man and beast.  But disobedience will bring war, disease and hunger and drought.  It has been so all these ages.  But in the regeneration, all nature shall flourish because Israel (all 12 Tribes) shall walk with their God, for then all shall know Him from the least to the greatest.

Compare Leviticus 26; Deut. 28; Jeremiah 31:31-33.

Verse 23: The former rain, or the rain of spring, is necessary for planting and sowing, and the latter rain, or late summer rain, is needed for ripening the harvest and give it it’s final “push”.  God will literally remove all conditions of drought.

But the meaning here is figurative mainly. There was the first outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.  This followed a time of heart-searching preparation by the 120 in the upper Room.  Now God promises another outpouring of the Holy Spirit after this time of affliction and threat of annihilation and enslavement.  We saw the call to repentance and the subsequent call for the greatest prayer meeting in Israel (the West) of all time.  This will then be followed by the second outpouring of the Holy Spirit, or the latter rain.  Just as the natural latter rain prepares the crop for harvest, so, likewise, will the spiritual “latter rain” prepare Israel for the Coming of the LORD.

It is, therefore, also obvious that no general outpouring of the Holy Spirit or world-wide revival can be expected until after the day of the LORD has been in progress.  But, for the individuals and groups who will meet the conditions, the Holy Spirit, in all His Power, is always available.

It should be noted that, in the “King James Version” in verse 23, the word ‘month’ is in italics, which means it is not in the original.

“The Revised Version” reads - “- - - - - as at the first”.

“The Afrikaans”: “Soos voorheen”.

In other words, it means the second outpouring shall be as at the first.

Verses 24-27: The Lord promises blessing and restoration.  We also see that the devastation and destruction brought upon Israel (the Western Nations) by Communism (the locust, cankerworm, etc.) was ordained of God.  In other words, God allowed the phenomenal rise to power in Russia and Confederates as His Rod of Chastisement to break the stiff necks of Israel (Western so-called Christendom) and bring them to repentance before the return of Christ and His Millennial Reign.

The promises in verses 26 and 27 are glorious.  As in Ezekiel 37 and many other prophecies, the LORD promises to come and dwell in the midst of his people and then they shall never be ashamed again.  He will deal wondrously with them, Hallelujah.

See also Isaiah 60:1-4;

1          ARISE, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.

2          For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gloss darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

3          And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

4          Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side.

Verse 28-29;

28        And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dreams, your young men shall see visions:

29        And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

Here is confirmed that which has been promised in previous verses.

Compare Ezek. 36:25-27; Acts 3:19-21; and,

Isaiah 44:1-3;

1          YET now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen:

2          Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.

3          For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring.

At Pentecost the first fulfillment, that of the “former rain” (verse 23) was fulfilled, that is why Peter quoted this promise in Acts 2:15-21. The word “afterward” has the meaning of “in the last days”, and is the period between the first and the second Coming of Christ.

Signs Preceding and Pointing to Second Advent.

Verses 30-31;

30        And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

31        The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

The term “pillars of smoke” has the meaning “palm trees of smoke” in the original.  This is exactly what a hydrogen bomb explosion looks like - the mushroom appearance - a stem out of the ground spreading out at the top like the palm tree.  This cloud of dust and smoke does, of course, completely cut off the light of the sun, and, when the moon shines, its appearance through it is red, the colour of blood.  Joel says we will see these things before the great and notable day of the LORD.  Well, we have these things with us today.

Cp. Matt. 24:29-31; Ezek. 1:4.

Matthew 24:29-31;

29        Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

30        And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

31        And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Ezekiel 1:4;

And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.

Verse 32;

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

A wonderful promise: it does mean, of course, those who shall be genuine and sincere.  The beauty is that there shall also be deliverance in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.  I believe this remnant is the Overcoming Church who, by that time, shall be so gloriously full of the power of the Holy Spirit, that all the nine Gifts of the spirit, nine Fruits of the Spirit and five Offices of the Spirit shall be in full operation in it.

See 1 Cor. 12; Gal. 5:22; Eph. 4.

They shall point to and guide to Christ in the midst of the confusion of judgment.

Chapter 3

The Restoration of Israel.

It is abundantly clear from our previous two chapters that we are living in the very days described so vividly in the Book of Joel.  When we have the right key to unlock the prophecies of the Bible, it becomes the most thrilling Book ever written and more up-to-date than the morning paper.

Even though there seems to be an apparent lull on the world front, we are living in the days when startling events can descend upon us at any time.  In chapters one and two we have seen how much of the events foretold have already come to pass and how many more have all the conditions set and ready for immediate fulfillment any time from now!

Verse 1;

FOR, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem.

One of the major themes of the Bible is the return and restoration of Twelve Tribes of Israel to the Land of Promise and the reinstatement of Jerusalem as the capital of the world.

Isaiah 11:10-12;

10        And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

11        And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set out his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

12        And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

Jeremiah 3:17-18;

17        At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.

18        In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.

Jeremiah 23:5-8;

5          Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

6          In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

7              Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The Lord liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

8              But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.

Joel 3:17;

So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.

Zechariah 2:10;

Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD.

Also read the following Scriptures: Ezek. 37:21-28; Acts 15:15-17; Amos 9:13-15.

God walked for a little while with man in the garden of Eden, but Sin banished both Him and Adam.  Then again, for a brief while along the dusty roads of Palestine, but Sin nailed Him to the Cross.  But now Sin has been paid for, Satan banished and Eden restored.  At this time (of verse one) God, in Christ, shall come to tabernacle with man once again – (Ezekiel 37:28; Revelation 21:3).

This return of Israel shall, of course, in the final phase, be miraculous and take place under the ministry of angels – (Matt. 24:31). This should not seem so strange when we bear in mind the supernatural deliverance of Israel from the house of bondage in Egypt.  Just as Israel was always called upon to remember this deliverance, so, in the ages following the re-gathering of Israel and the re-establishing of Jerusalem, will all subsequent generations be reminded of the supernatural way in which it took place.

Jeremiah 23:7-8;

7          Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

8          But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.

The Ministry of Angels.

As we shall see a little further on, the angels of God will play a very prominent part in God’s judgement upon the nations that defy Him.  It is during this same time that the severing of the chaff from the wheat and the re-gathering of Israel will take place.  Angels will do this work.

Matthew 13:39-43;

39        The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

40        As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.

41        The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

42        And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

43        Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Matthew 24:31;

And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Matthew 25:31;

When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory.

Also read Rev. 19:11-21; 2 Kings 2:1,11; 2 Kings 6:16-17.

If a chariot of fire was used to lift Elijah bodily from the ground and transport him away, why cannot it be done again on a massive scale? Many of the flying saucers of modern days have been proved not to be figments of imagination because they were recorded on radar screens.  Some were huge and traveled at 20,000 m.p.h. and could change direction at right angles.  We live in the most exciting period of all time if we are ready to meet the LORD.  Are you ready, reader?

Matthew 24:44;

Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

But this will also be the time of Jacob’s (Christian West) Trouble.  We live in the days of global strategy.  No great major modern war is waged over a single city.  In such a contest, the whole world is involved.  Therefore, although the final decisive blow will be in Palestine, the actual battle will cover the whole earth - (Jer. 25:32-33).

The Gathering of the Nations.

The gathering of the Nations in the valley of Jehoshaphat.

Verse 2;

I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.

Jehoshaphat means “Jehovah judges”.

It is, therefore, in this light that we must interpret this verse.  To confine the whole final battle to this valley on the outskirts of Jerusalem will not make sense.  It means God will gather the nations to judge them.  But the “power” which will draw them together will be their hatred of Israel, the Christian West, to wipe out the Christian Faith, the Church, and the Bible.

We can see this in a particular sense already in their hatred of South Africa and the banding together against us at the United Nations Organization.  Soon it will also be the turn of Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States of America.  The non-white, Non-Protestant Nations are in a state of rebellion against the leadership and supremacy of White Protestant Civilization. Read:

Psalm 2:2-3;

2              The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

3              Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

Psalm 83:4-5;

4              They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

5              For they have consulted together with one consent; they are confederate against thee.

To apply these Scriptures to a handful of Jews in Palestine will be ludicrous.  It will also be contrary to the actual state of affairs as they are at this very moment.  The heathen nations are in a state of ferment and rebellion against white leader-ship.

God also calls Israel his heritage and we can see who they are today, the Guardians of the Bible and the Christian Faith.  Backslidden as we are, the True Church of Jesus Christ still has its home in the Protestant West, and not in Jewry, or in the East, or amongst the Black Nations of Africa.

We see the same truth in:

Zechariah 14:1-3;

1          BEHOLD, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.

2              For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

3              Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.

It speaks of a great heathen onslaught upon the Protestant West.  It also warns of a great measure of success on the part the adversary before God intervenes on behalf of his people.

On the 16th May, 1948, they did partition Palestine and Jerusalem and divided it between the Arabs and the Jews.  The Jews represent only the tribes Judah and Benjamin and even so only partially, because the Jews, themselves, as they are today, are such a mixture of non-Israel blood, that the largest percentage have no claim by blood at all to a single inch of the Promised Land.  The pure Jew of Israel’s stock will have the physical features (shape of head and nose, colour of eyes and hair) of the average West European, his kinsman from the Ten Tribes (the House of Israel).

No wonder God was angry when they did this and denied any right to Palestine to the White Protestants Nations.  Almighty God records his displeasure over this in: Ezekiel 11:15;

Son of man, thy brethren, even thy brethren, the men of thy kindred, and all the house of Israel wholly, are they unto whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Get you far from the LORD: unto us is this land given in possession.

And promises a full restoration in:

Ezekiel 11:17-20;

17        Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD, I will even gather you from the people, and assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.

18        And they shall come thither, and they shall take away all the detestable things thereof and all the abominations thereof from thence.

19        And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:

20        That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

Not a single one of these promises have been fulfilled in the so-called Israeli State, which came into being on the 16th May 1948.  They are not walking in the statutes of the LORD neither do they keep his ordinances.  Their hearts are hard, and they do not acknowledge Jesus of Nazareth as their Messiah.

It is because they are mostly renegade Jews who compelled the British with brute force and satanic cunning to surrender their mandate over Palestine.  The Arabs were driven out of large portions of the country by means of some of the most hideous atrocities, to make room for the masses of Jews who flocked thither from Eastern and Central Europe.

God promised the land to the pure seed of Abraham through Isaac and then through Jacob.  The Jews now in Palestine have a large percentage of Esau blood in their veins and are, therefore, not even entitled to be there at all.  They are masquerading as Jacob and are aiming in that way to steal back the birthright which Esau sold to Jacob for a pottage of lentils.

God will bring back the true Israel, all Twelve Tribes, to the Land, cleansed and converted.

Please read carefully and prayerfully, i.a.:

Ezek. 36:33-38; Zeph. 3:13-20; Isa. 51:11; Isa. 61:9; Ezek. 11:19-20.

Israel will return under the New Covenant in Christ - (Matt. 26:28).

The present Israeli State rejects Christ.  The true Israel shall be gathered and returned to the Land at the Second Coming of Christ.

Read: Deut. 30:3; Matt. 24:31; Jer. 31:9.

Verses 3-8;

3          And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink.

4          Yea, and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of Palestine? will ye render me a recompense? and if ye recompense me, swiftly and speedily will I return your recompense upon your own head;

5          Because ye have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried into your temples my goodly pleasant things:

6          The children also of Judah and the children of Jerusalem have ye sold unto the Grecains, that ye might remove them far from their border.

7          Behold, I will raise them out of the place whither ye have sold them, and will return your recompense upon your own head:

8          And I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and they shall sell them to the Sabeans, to a people far off: for the LORD hath spoken it.

Here the LORD continues to state his case against these heathen nations whose descendants today are the very nations who are preparing to say to us “Where is your God?” They did the same to Israel in the days of the Bible - the leopard does not change its spots, neither the Ethiopian (the Black Man) his skin.

See Jeremiah 13:23.

There are glorious exceptions of course, but we speak generally.

Prepare War Wake up the Mighty Men.

Verses 9-16;

9          Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up:

10        Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.

11        Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD.

12        Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about.

13        Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the vats overflow; for their wickedness is great.

14        Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.

15        The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.

16        The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.

There has never been such a preparation for war in the history of all mankind as there has been since the last World War.  Even the backward Black African and Yellow Asiatic States have been on a knife-sharpening spree these past twenty years.  Trees in the Bible symbolize Nations.  That is why Jesus said that the budding of the fig tree and all the trees show that summer is nigh.  The fig tree symbolizes the House of Judah, the vine the House of Israel and the other trees the other nations.

We have seen before our eyes so many African and Asian Nations gain their independence, that they dominate the United Nations Organization.  Britain fears the influence of these nations, hence her policy of selling the White Man in Africa down the river, in order to buy the goodwill of these “trees” that are now sprouting “leaves”.

The White Nations will yet have to learn that our peace and safety does not lie in making pacts and agreements with the heathen, but to obey God and to keep his commandments, to obey his laws and to observe his statutes and ordinances. While Israel remained faithful in the days of the Bible, to these principles, she remained strong opposite the heathen around her, but the moment she departed from her Covenant-Keeping God, the heathen became aggressive, a menace, and sometimes even subdued her.

The White Western Protestant Nations are today the literal descendants of Israel (Ten Tribes) and the heathen nations still the same heathen nations of the Bible, only with different names, but with the same characteristics.  History is in the process of repeating itself for the last time! The day of the LORD, the last “day of reckoning” is at the very door of the last drama of the ages.

Verse 10: The weak are saying “I am strong.” Many of these “weak” nations are saying today “I am strong” as you listen to them dictating to the West.  The great Western Nations are crawling on their knees to pacify them.  Most of them are still in a Pagan uncivilized state, but are acting as the equals of their superiors in every sphere.  This verse is such an accurate description of the very days in which we are found that we cannot possibly fail to recognize it.

Verse 11: When all the heathen begin to gather for the destruction of God’s people, the LORD alerts the angels (the mighty ones - see Psalm 103:20-21) to get ready to descend down to earth to defend and protect his inheritance Israel, and to punish and destroy the heathen.

See: 2 Thess. 1:7,8; Matt. 25:31; Rev. 19:17-18; Matt. 13:39-43.

At the Cross-, they were restrained - (Matt. 26:53), but not now!

Verse 12: We are living in the very days when the heathen have come to an awakening.

See my article “The Time of the Heathen”.

Ezekiel Chapters 38 and 39 tell us that they will come up in their multitudes against God’s people.  There will then be a glorious act of Divine Intervention - when God will act to save his people and judge the heathen.  One mighty one (angel) of the LORD slew in one night 185,000 Syrians - (2 Kings 19:35).

Verses 13 and 14: The Bible speaks of the Judgement at the end of the age as the time of the harvest and the angels as the reapers – (Matt. 13:39).  It is remarkable that the emblem of Red Russia is the Hammer and Sickle, because Russia has been mentioned by name in Ezek. 38 and 39 in connection with the judgement at the end of the age.  We also know that Russia is militantly atheistic.

See my article “Russia in Prophecy”.

Verse 15: This is the same description as in chapter 2:10, 30, 31.

See commentary on these verses in chapter 2.

Verse 16: The LORD will hasten to the defence of his chosen people.  The nations shall tremble and be afraid.

Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure - (Psalm 2:5).

Behold he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen - (Rev. 1:7).

Read also: Hebrew 12:25-29.

The nations, who have defied the Lord and despised the Lord Jesus Christ, shall then realize their own impotence when the LORD GOD begins to shake the very heavens in his wrath.  The Christ rejecters will be petrified with fear, but the people of the LORD will be filled with joy and worship, because they will realize that the LORD has come to answer their prayers and to vindicate his Name in the sight of the heathen.

Mark 13:24-25;

24        - - - - -the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light;

25        And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.

Also Matthew 24:29.

The heavens and the earth shall shake when the LORD utters his voice.  Then the world shall know what it means when God utters his voice in wrath.  Then the defeat that faced Zion (The Christian Nations) is turned into victory.

See Joel 2:21; Micah 4:11-13; Rev. 19:11-15.

This, then, will also be the immediate prelude to the return of the Son of God to sit upon the Throne of David - (Luke 1:31-33),

And commence his millennial reign - (Matthew 25:31-32).

See also the following Scriptures:

Hag. 2:21-22; Ezek. 38:21; Zech. 12:4; Zech. 14:12-15; Rev. 19:17-19.

At this very time, the angel of the LORD will descend from heaven with the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand.  He will seize the dragon, that serpent of old, the Devil or Satan, and will chain him up for 1,000 years.  He will throw him into the abyss, and shut it and seal it over him, so that he might seduce the Nations no more till the thousand years are over – (See Rev. 20:1-3).

Full Kingdom Blessing.

Verses 17-21;

17        So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.

18        And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD, and shall water the valley of Shittim.

19        Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.

20        But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to gene-ration.

21        For I will cleanse their blood that I have not cleansed: for the LORD dwelleth in Zion.

Thus will then commence the Millennial Reign on earth of our Lord Jesus Christ. The power of the wicked nations will have been broken all the man-made systems of unrighteousness destroyed and Satan bound and locked away for a thousand years.

Jerusalem will be the capital of the new world “and the LORD will be King of all the earth” – ( See Zech. 14:9).

See also: Isa. 35; Isa. 52:1; Psalm 2:6; Rev. 19:8; Nahum 1:15; Zech. 14:21; Rev. 21:27.

And Jeremiah 3:17-18;

Then joy will be restored to this earth once more and sorrow and mourning will flee away.  It will be then when the promise which the Lord Jesus had made at the Last Supper, about drinking the New Wine in the Father’s Kingdom, shall be fulfilled.

See Matt. 26:29; Luke 22:18; John 2:10; Luke 12:37; Joel 3:18.

The earth shall yield her fruit in abundance, and there shall be no more famine or fear.

See Isaiah 55:13;

Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

Also see Isaiah 11:1-9.

Ezekiel 34:29;

And I will raise up for them a plant of renown, and they shall no more be consumed with hunger in the land, neither bear the shame of the heathen any more.

Romans 8:18-25; Ezek. 36:29-30; Rev. 22:1; Zech. 14:8; Amos 9:13.

In this restored Kingdom, those who have attained unto the first resurrection will rule and reign with Christ.

“Happy indeed, and one of God’s own people, is the man who shares in this first resurrection! Upon such, the second death has no claim; but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him for the thousand years” - (Rev. 20:6, New English Bible).

As we are entering the final few years of this Dispensation, the call comes to us to lay our all on the altar of God.  Great will be our reward; to them that overcome, nothing less than rulership with Christ –

Rev. 3:21;

To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

2 Tim. 2:12;

If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us.

Romans 8:17;

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

In the message of the Risen Christ, to each of the Seven Churches, there is a glorious promise to the Over-comer:

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God - (Rev. 2:7).

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death - (Rev. 2:11).

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it - (Rev. 2:17).

26) And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: 27) And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father - (Rev. 2:26, 27).

He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels - (Rev. 3:5).

Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name - (Rev. 3:12).

To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne - (Rev. 3:21).

“Then He Who sat on the throne said, “Behold! I am making all things new!  And He said to me, “Write this down; for these words are trustworthy and true. Indeed, He said, they are already fulfilled.  For I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. A draught from the water-springs of life will be my free gift to the thirsty. All this is the victor’s heritage; and I will be his God and he shall be my son. But, as for the cowardly, the faithless, and the vile, murderers, fornicators, sorcerers, idolaters, and liars of every kind, their lot will be the second death, in the lake that burns with sulphurous flames” - (Rev. 21:5-8, New English Bible Translation)”.
